The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (U.S. Department of Education) will host a 2 ˝ -day conference on December 6–8, 2004, in Washington, DC. This conference will provide participants with a multidisciplinary approach to programs and resources for addressing the problem of truancy and related issues. The conference program will present practical approaches and strategies for achieving successful outcomes to the truancy problem in schools and communities. Conference participants will attend dynamic plenary sessions, informative workshops, and interactive roundtable discussions. National Youth Court Month Highlights Funding Available for Service Projects on Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday The Corporation for National and Community Service recently announced that it is making available approximately $600,000 in grant funding to organizations that commemorate the 2005 Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday with volunteer service projects. <<more>> The Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grant Youth Service America and State Farm are proud to present the State Farm Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grant. The grant is now available to teachers/professors, youth (ages 5-25), and school-based service-learning coordinators to implement service-learning projects for National Youth Service Day 2005, April 15-17. One hundred grants of $1,000 are available to youth, teachers/professors, and school-based service-learning coordinators. Interested individuals may apply online by October 18, 2004 (Please note this is a receipt deadline, not a postmark deadline). Database!
The Monograph will be mailed to all active youth court programs in the NYCC's database and is also available online at http://www.youthcourt.net/publications/monograph.pdf. Policymakers Support Youth Court Growth, Voices and Recommendations from the Field Legislators are seeking innovate and creative ways for dealing with youth who engage in unlawful behavior. This policy brief, written by Sarah S Pearson from the American Youth Policy Forum, discusses how youth court is emerging as a promising program for youth and communities.
