Training and Technical Assistance Opportunities

Register for the Implementing & Enhancing Youth Courts Training Seminar

Are you interested in developing a youth court? Are you a new youth court coordinator or director? If so, join the National Youth Court Center in the beautiful majestic Rocky Mountains at the Warwick Denver Hotel on April 24-26, 2006 for the Implementing and Enhancing Youth Court Programs training seminar.  This seminar is designed for individuals who are interested in implementing new youth court programs.  It can also be helpful for new youth court staff who want to learn how to enhance their program.

Attend the NYCC’s 3rd Youth Court Professional Development Institute

The National Youth Court Center is pleased to announce its 3rd  Youth Court Professional Development Institute will be held on June 14-17, 2006 in San Diego, CA at the Wyndham Emerald Plaza. This seminar is designed for staff and others affiliated with active youth, teen, peer, or student court programs to provide them with more advanced training on youth court and related topics. 

Register by April 21, 2006 to take advantage of the discounted registration rate.

National Conference on Juvenile Justice Convenes in Denver

On March 26-29, 2006, in Denver, CO, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and the National District Attorneys Association will sponsor the National Conference on Juvenile Justice. For more information, please log onto www.ncjfcj.org.

Lifesavers 2006 Conference

Street Law Announces 2006 Supreme Court Summer Institute

Street Law, Inc. is holding a Supreme Court Summer Institute on June 15-20 and June 22-27 in Washington, D.C. To qualify you must be a secondary social studies teacher and be willing to train other teachers. Completed applications with a letter of recommendation must be postmarked by March 20, 2006. Funding Opportunities

National Crime Prevention Council Grants

The National Crime Prevention Council, a National & Global Youth Service Day National Partner, will award 100 grants of up to $500 through its Teens, Crime, and the Community initiative. The grants will support service-learning projects planned and implemented by youth who identify needs and create projects to address or prevent crime, violence, or drug abuse in their schools and communities. These grants are intended to encourage and promote crime prevention, community service, and civic responsibility. Application deadline is April 1st. FY 2006 Tribal Juvenile Accountability Discretionary Grant Program 

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) will award Tribal Juvenile Accountability Discretionary Grant (JADG) Program grants to federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities to develop and implement programs that hold AI/AN youth accountable for their delinquent behavior and strengthen tribal juvenile justice systems. OJJDP has developed this program announcement to assist and guide federally recognized tribes as they prepare their applications for funding under the Tribal JADG program. Scholarships and Awards

The Presidential Freedom Scholarships are currently available for the 2006 program year. This program, administered by Learn and Serve America at the Corporation for National and Community Service, provides Presidential recognition and a $1,000 college scholarship to high school juniors and seniors for their leadership in community service. Students must complete at least 100 hours of community service to be eligible for the scholarship. The postmark deadline to submit certification forms is May 12, 2006. NYCC Mini-Grant Recipients Announced

National Inhalants and Poisons Awareness Week March 19-25, 2006

NIPAW is designed to increase public awareness about the dangers of inhalants. For more information on how you can become involved in this organization, visit www.inhalants.org

New Anti-Bullying Website Launched

The PACER organization recently unveiled a new anti-bullying interactive website that features lively animation, interactive games, and contests designed to educate kids in grades 2 through 6 about bullying and how to respond to prevent this widespread problem. Participate in National Youth Violence Prevention Week

The National Youth Violence Prevention Campaign is a national initiative designed to raise awareness and to educate students, teachers, school administrators, counselors, school resource officers, school staff, parents, and the public on effective ways to prevent or reduce youth violence. Launched by National SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) and The Guidance Channel, this campaign is designed to demonstrate the positive role young people can have in making their schools and communities safer.  For more information and to learn how the National Youth Court Center is participating, go to http://www.youthcourt.net/Announcements/NYVPC_Overview2006.htm.
