Bridgestone Firestone Safety Scholars Essay Contest The Bridgestone Firestone Safety Scholars Essay Contest is available to students aged 16 to 21 who are enrolled full-time in a secondary, college level, or trade school. You must submit an essay no more than 500 words relating to automobile safety. The essay should discuss effective ways to improve driver safety for drivers aged 16 to 21 and ideas on the best and most effective way to communicate to and educate drivers on the topic discussed. TENFOLD Enterprises Fall 2006 Scholarship The TENFOLD Enterprises Fall 2006 Scholarship is available to undergraduate, graduate and trade/vocational college students who are U.S. citizens with financial need. Each year Disney presents innovative teachers with the Disney Teacher Awards in celebration of their creativity, innovative teaching methods, and ability to inspire students while actively engaging them in learning. Each honoree receives $10,000 from The Walt Disney Company and a trip to Disneyland in Anaheim, California, for a week of festivities that includes an awards gala, professional development, and fun in the theme park. Opportunities On June 6, the Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales announced nearly $15 million dollars in grant funds for school based law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum through the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program (G.R.E.A.T.). The G.R.E.A.T. Program is administered by the Office of Justice Program’s (OJP’s), Bureau of Justice Assistance within the Justice Department and is geared toward middle and high school students to reduce their involvement in delinquent behavior, violence, and gang membership. The U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services' (HHS) Administration for Children and
Families is seeking grant applications for its
Compassion Capital Fund Communities Empowering Youth (CEY) Program.Under
the CEY program, funds will be awarded to build the organizational
capacity of experienced lead Faith Based Community Organizations (FBCO’s)
and their partnering FBCOs to better meet the needs of America's
disadvantaged youth. The lead organization will assist its faith-based
or community partners through technical assistance and training in four
CEY critical areas: leadership development, organizational development,
program development, and community engagement. Applicants must focus on
improving organizational capacity and sustainability among FBCOs
providing services in the following social service priority areas: gang
activity, youth violence, and child abuse and neglect. Start-Up Funds Available for National and Global Youth Service Day Projects You could win up to $1,000 in start-up funds for sustainable National & Global Youth Service Day projects by joining the YSA Youth Venture program. Thirty awards of up to $1,000 in start-up funds will be available to young people ages 12 to 20 who want to create innovative, new, sustainable and civic-minded organizations, clubs or businesses ("ventures"). The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Announces Funding for Mental Health Service Providers Approximately $100,000 per year for three years will be awarded to partnerships of schools and mental health service providers assisting children in low-income and refugee- and immigrant-dense communities. Announcements The National Youth Court Center would like to acknowledge youth courts, teen courts, and peer courts for lending a helping hand to make a difference in their communities during National and Global Youth Service Day, which was held April 21-22. National Youth Court Center’s Volunteer Hall of Honor Still Accepting Applicants The National Youth Court Center is still accepting applicants for the Volunteer Hall of Honor on its website. Local youth courts may submit the names of one youth and one adult volunteer from their program who have been particularly valuable or who have made an outstanding contribution to the program throughout the past year. If you feel you have a youth and or adult volunteer who deserve special recognition, nominate them for the Volunteer Hall of Honor today. Hurry! Application deadline is August 1, 2006. The nominees will be posted on the NYCC website. Certificates for those nominated for the Hall of Honor will be mailed out to program coordinators by August 15. Courts across the country will be actively participating in community events to showcase their programs.
