Registration Deadline August 11, 2006 Law Enforcement Solutions for Reducing Racial Disparities & Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) in Juvenile Justice The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) through a grant with the Coalition for Juvenile Justice (CJJ) present the 11th Annual DMC Conference. The September 7-10, 2006 DMC conference is designed to expand partnerships between state juvenile justice advisory groups, local juvenile justice practitioners and law enforcement officers, jointly seeking solutions to reduce racial disparities and disproportionately high rates of juvenile justice system contact for youth of color. Special attention will be given to the first points of contact that law enforcement officers have with at-risk and offending youth, exploring opportunities for positive outcomes and community partnerships. ABA Announces Truancy Program The American Bar Association, Criminal Justice Section, Juvenile Justice Committee is pleased to present From Truancy to Zero Tolerance: The Changing Border of Education and Juvenile Justice from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on August 23, 2006 at the Capitol Hilton in Washington, DC. This program will discuss legal issues associated with truancy and truancy prevention, special education, referrals of students to juvenile courts for school-based misbehavior, education of delinquent youth, and problems delinquent youth have in returning to school after placement. The program will address substantive law and policy, and will provide tips for practitioners. Registration deadline: August 14, 2006 (Walk-in’s welcome). National Center for Victims of Crime 2006 Training Institute The National Center for Victims of Crime is pleased to announce the 2006 Training Institute which offers the best in high quality training for victim service providers, law enforcement professionals, mental health professionals, youth workers, and others involved in supporting victims of crime. Institute dates are in Seattle, Washington (September 25-27, 2006) and Cincinnati, Ohio (October 3-5, 2006).This training has been approved by the National Board of Certified Counselors for continuing education units for professional counselors. Announcements September is just around the corner. If you haven’t already started planning activities and events for National Youth Court Month, it is not too late. Youth, teen, peer, and student courts across the country will be actively participating in community events to showcase their programs. Make sure your program gets the recognition it deserves. outreach, such as in their Law Day materials and/or on their website. If
your photos are selected, imagine the extra recognition that your

Resources The National Association of Extension 4-H Agents have announced the creation of the “Journal of Youth Development-Bridging Research and Practice.” This multidisciplinary journal, which will be published three times per year, will focus on the development of the school-aged youth through the transition to adulthood. The journal is intended to further the mission of the youth development profession by facilitating the transfer and application of research based knowledge in an easy-to-access format.
